Participating TEDx society is different to having debates.
Resolving an issue is important, but what is more important is to discuss on topics with different perspectives.
In order to encourage students to be confidence in sharing their own opinions, I would like to dedicate myself in the TEDx Circles in order to host a safe and opened space where anyone can speak freely regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or even what they study in university.

This society itself is already a huge opportunity for students to learn how to become open-minded global leaders.
I would like to focus on encouraging students to share their knowledge that they gained from different courses or studies as this could promote understanding global issues from different points of view. To promote this, I would like to host regular sessions with diverse topics that are related to topics outside of academic life but allow students to gather their own knowledge to further discuss about it. I am also a caring person who is willing to help others that are not comfortable in group discussions and I will prioritise balanced participation when I become the host of the event.

Kavya Subramanian

I’d like to engage more with the TEDxUCL society while contributing towards creating an enjoyable experience for future members of the society. I believe that I am a compelling candidate for this specific position as I possess all the qualities required to be a good event manager and ultimately a Director of TED Circles.

During schooling, I’ve constantly engaged with my school community by taking up leadership and management positions like being the Cultural Secretary, MUN Student Representative and the Head Girl of the student council. All these roles helped me develop effective planning, leadership skills, event organisation and management, outreach, taking initiative, delegating to and supervising team members, communication, etc. I’ve particularly had extensive experience with successfully planning and organising large scale inter school events.

I’m an outgoing person with strong interpersonal and communication skills. My experiences with public speaking and debate have honed my ability to communicate both professionally and casually as and when the situation calls for. I’m also currently working a part time job as ‘Presenter’ at Elevate Education which is rooted in engaging public speaking and crowd control.

As a Director of TED Circles, I hope to create an environment where anyone can discover the joy in geeking out over TED talks and discussions surrounding new ideas, just as much as I do.

Raya Mahmood

I would like to nominate myself as the Director of TedX Circles as I am organised, have good communication skills and an appetite for knowledge. Having lived in international cities, I have been able to equip myself with the ability to understand and communicate with people across the globe. As a first-year representative of the society, I was able to work under the numerous divisions and gained experience that will enable me to bring value to TedX Circles and engage in effective dialogue. The ability to have diplomatic discussions is an essential skill and I will ensure every student will have the opportunity to develop it. Having conducted my own Ted Talk and integrating myself into the society, I have been able to comprehend the ethos of TedX which was created to expand our knowledge and become better global citizens.

The role of director also requires meticulous planning which I will be able to undertake as a well-structured and balanced student. For the future, I would like to maintain the consistency of TedX Circles with interesting and varying themes, so everyone has a chance to speak for something they are passionate about. Additionally, I would like to collaborate with the marketing team to spread this platform to more students at UCL, including post-graduates to diversify our audience. I would strongly value the opportunity to be a part of such a diverse community of intellectuals and vow to expand the horizons of ‘ideas worth sharing' in the upcoming year.
