Preston J H Tong

I am passionate about technology and enthusiastic about collaborating with like-minded people who share the same passion. Having held the position of Head of Events in TechSoc, I had the opportunity to lead the events team in organising TechSoc's flagship hackathon - Porticode 5.0 which was a big success. I enjoy the process of organising tech related events and strongly believe that I can continue to contribute to the society as vice president. If I were elected vice president, I aim to increase the bonding within the committee and boost engagement with society members by overlooking the planning of more socials and tech/programming related events for both beginners and more experienced individuals. Most importantly, I look forward to working closely with the incoming president and committee, whilst having fun and building lasting friendships along the way.

Manya Gureja

I view TechSoc as a space where everybody, irrespective of their degree title or discipline, can find ample opportunities to discover technological advancements in areas that interest them!

Being non-membership fee based, TechSoc often becomes a dormant society in one’s portfolio. I wish to rectify this by offering opportunity-based incentives that would motivate members to engage more. For instance, organising ideation sessions with our industry partners would allow members to explore their interests while creating great first impressions. I aim to make networking within the society easier by setting up a current member and alumni database which all members would have access to. With the committee's support, I also wish to set up an opportunity tracker, specifically for technology related job/role openings to prevent them from getting overshadowed by the financial buzz in London. Implementing these strategies would allow the society to live up to its motto, ‘Connect, Create, Collaborate’.

I am motivated to transform TechSoc into a motivating space where all students are inspired to think, learn and initiate. Having served as the first-year rep for the EEE department, events executive for UCL WES and workshops executive for UCL EWB, I am well-acquainted with the challenges that leadership and representation entail. I am confident that my determination can accelerate the progress of this society and make it more active and vibrant.
