Being a Fitness Captain for the past year has truly been an honour. I have enjoyed helping swimmers of all abilities to improve and grow, in confidence and ability. Having seen behind the scenes of the Club I would welcome the opportunity to work on a more logistical level, helping to make swimming training more holistic and organised.

I'm very fortunate to have a plethora of both swimming, and organisational experience. From my roles at UCL (Swimming Fitness Captain and First-Year Rep for the Diplomacy Society) to those outside University (College Swimming Captain under Olympic coach, competing at an international level) I have been very grateful for the experience I have gained.

But all of this, while relevant, is not essential. The key to my desire for this opportunity is experience and vision. It is easy to point out the faults in a system, however it is less easy to provide solutions. I hope to do exactly that.

In brief, my proposals for progress would be:

  • Help the committee to find pools with more suitable availability (i.e., avoid the need for doodle polls).
  • Provide a bank of online sets for swimmers to complete independently if they cannot attend a training session.
  • Organise smaller and more frequent 'friendly' inter-university competitions to increase racing experience.

I do hope you will consider voting for me, I promise to serve you to the very best of my ability.

Jennifer Zheng

Hi! I'm Jennifer, current Vice President, running incumbent (lol). I'm hoping to be back next year because swimming on the competitive team has truly been a highlight of my time at uni, and I want to use the knowledge I’ve acquired this year to bring that experience to as many people as possible.

Next year, I'll be in my final year of my law degree. I’m from the US and I’ve been a competitive swimmer for over 9 years and a national triathlete for 4. But by far, swimming has always had my heart the most. Early morning practices, sitting at meets for hours, coupled with the joys of setting a best time, good practices—the swimming community is unmatched by any other and I am so lucky to be a part of it.

This year, I have gained experience with many aspects of running our club, ranging from the financial side, having worked with the Student Union finance department to request funding, to logistical matters such as booking all our hotels for our travel meets. I have aided the President by taking on every task delegated to me, in a timely manner. The variety of tasks I provide support on as Vice President allow me bring my organizational and communication skills from being a law student, having balanced multiple law extracurriculars with sports during my time at UCL.

Having met some of you this year, I hope to a team spirit to the forefront and ensure everyone's voice is heard, across our fitness and competitive teams, for next year.

Thank you!
