Emma McEwen

It would be a privilege to chair the Cardiothoracic team, and work with others to create opportunities. By providing an exciting year of experiences, I hope to share my enthusiasm in the discipline with the rest of SurgSoc.

I will be doing the cardiovascular iBSc next year, so I can ensure my full commitment to the role. While working towards an award by the Institute of Leadership and Management I worked to tight deadlines with a small team to host an event to raise funds for charity. Through this I gained a large amount of communication and organisational skills, and I would enjoy working on more such projects as Cardiothoracic Chair.

The previous talks have been fantastic, and I would like to build on this high standard by:

  • Founding a Cardiothoracic conference with workshops and presenting opportunities

  • Organising fun and collaborative events with other societies (who doesn’t love a pub quiz?!)

  • Coordinating tutorials and workshops to support anyone interested in learning more about Cardiothoracic surgery

  • Providing shadowing opportunities by working together with the shadowing officer

  • Start a Cardiothoracic subcommittee Instagram page with information about events, takeover days, and current opportunities
Chihoe Gooi

What I would bring to the society:

1. Hold regular talks related to cardiac, thoracic, congenital heart surgeries and recent advancements in the cardiothoracic field

2. Organise events based on your popular opinions

3. Recruit tutors and organise C&B tutorials for year 1

4. Collaborate with other societies to organise a heart conference

Why me?

- Organisational experience: As an events executive for MMI UK(Malaysian Medic International UK), I was actively involved in organising and hosting talks and a conference.

- Passion: Cardiothoracic surgery has always been my field of interest, I will be reading cardiovascular iBSc and I have attended numerous talks and conferences over the last 2 years. All these experiences would allow me to organise more insightful events for you.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to get in contact with me to ask my any questions about my ideas by contacting me at WhatsApp (+447464326606).
