Samiya Siddiqi

Hi, my name is Samiya Siddiqi, I’m a second-year student and I’m running to be your Events Officer for 2022-23!

I was passionate about campaigning for the rights of Palestinian people a long time before I started at university, and the amazing energy that I’ve witnessed from UCL students both on and off campus has been incredibly inspiring! As your Events Officer, I would plan to create events to unite our community under the common cause of protecting Palestinian lives, that could both inform and educate students as well as allow them to interact with the cause itself. The situation in Palestine is deeply personal to many of us, and having a safe space to discuss and hear these ideas is vital.

I have experience planning events for the UCL English and Islamic societies, from coffee shop socials to bake sales to sisters’ hikes, and some of these events even held over 100 people. My experience has given me a lot of insight into how to create a balance between enjoyable and informative events, and I would love to implement this at SJP! Events like talks, interactive workshops, socials (and more!) will help to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine and allow a space for everyone who is as passionate about the cause as we are! Thank you for reading this and I hope to see you all next year!
