I already have a wealth of experience in relevance to external relations within the ski industry, having made several connections during my time out in Austria. I will maintain any current relationships held within the industry whilst also searching out new and exciting possibilities. I am already a brand ambassador for a UK based ski clothing company and hope to build upon this in the near future alongside UCL Snowsports. Building upon the foundation secured within the society I would like to search out more interuniversity events in and around London, building a positive and competitive relationship with the local ski teams. I would also like to search out and secure a healthier alternative to the longstanding red bull sponsors, either in the form of iced coffees, more natural tastier energy drinks, or protein bars etc. Additionally, my main goal over the summer would be to seek sponsorship from an alcohol company.  I understand that sustainability is an ever-pressing issue and to support this I would encourage the search for more sustainable merchandise within the club and the possibility of a wider range of merchandise to help raise funds and increase our nationwide image. Although I understand that hosting charitable events within a university setting is hard, I would like to research this possibility.

Joel Goddard

The role of external relations is often an overlooked one within Snowsports, but it can play a huge part in creating a better experience for all members. Next year is a real opportunity, with covid restrictions mostly gone, it promises to be a year where brands will be looking to establish new partnerships with Snowsports societies. If elected next year I would;

  • Get flagship sponsors for the society: many other unis have main sponsors that bring in income for their Snowsports society, Manchester had Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, others have clothing brands, allowing them to run more events, and keep costs for members down
  • Get discount codes and sponsorships from other companies, SunGod, Bro, AJAM etc; collaborations with brands will allow us to get discount codes for members, and bring more people into the society
  • Use our clubs’ alumni to find deals and new companies to partner with i.e. Redbull
  • Collaborate with other Snowsports clubs to create bigger events and get better deals, multi-uni Boatball, combined launch parties
  • Work with the social welfare sec on creating charity events sponsored by, or with prizes from, various Snowsports companies, supporting our favoured charities like Protect our Winters
  • Have customised Snowsports merch for members, ready to order at the start of the year and arrive before Christmas

Whatever happens I know that next year will be a fantastic year, and I hope I can be a part of your committee to play my part in doing it!

Hi, I’m Julie, and I’m running for External Relations Officer. I would love the opportunity to get even more involved with UCL Snowsports as a part of your committee next year to help run this amazing club. In this past year, I’ve attended countless socials, competed in three rounds of King’s and undoubtedly (well, perhaps slightly doubtfully) contributed to the third-place win of our second ladies’ ski team!

With five years of experience in university snowsports, I’ve got great connections with other clubs and brands, particularly beneficial to this role for bringing in new sponsorship. While maintaining relationships with current sponsors such as bro! clothing, I’m seeking to create new ones with brands such as Jägermeister, Red Bull, Dragon Soop and upcoming Danish snow goggle company MessyWeekend. My ties with other clubs such as Leeds, Manchester, and (of course) Queen Mary will be key for integrating UCL with the London and wider UK snowsports scene.

Finally, something I would want to improve on in the club is our charity work. In this role I would lead on selecting our charity of choice, traditionally Snow Camp – an organisation creating snowsports opportunities for young people in need – and assist other committee members in running initiatives to support them.

I would love the opportunity to get more involved so please vote for me!

Dan He Thurner

As I’ve been told many times that I’m a shopaholic, I felt like I should start putting this addiction to good use by applying for External Relations Officer. I will put the skills I’ve acquired into ordering the best stash for our club. And seeing as I am the ugliest skier it is in my best interest to make it up to our club by ensuring that we have the best-looking teams from all the universities.

As part of the role of External Relations Officer, another of my goals is going to be securing the best sponsorships for our club. Having sold out charity raffle tickets each year at my school, I believe that I have the organisation and persuasion to secure the best sponsorships for our club. Although a Moncler sponsorship would be unlikely despite me always wearing their jacket on the dry slope. I also think that most people would agree, that getting an alcohol sponsorship will make our club’s events even better. And I know that even though my drinking abilities are probably not going to convince these sponsors, my communication skills and persistence will definitely do a better job.

Vote for me and you will not regret this Austrian in power.

Jean Rabeau

I'm applying to be the external relations officer, because over the past year I've had the best time being apart of snowsports, and I want to give back and help run the society in a role that I believe suits me well. Some of my personal favourite moments were, being apart of the winning team at Buds olympics, bus back and mulleys after Kings 1 and beating basia in a 1 vs 1 snowboard race. Obviously the last one was the best moment.

I find snowsports is one of the more chaotic, hilarious and exciting societies in UCL which attracts a lovely group of people and I'd enjoy the opportunity to help run it. I think I have the qualities to make a good external relations officer in being hard working and willing to take initiative and in general a good addition to committee because I'm a positive guy keen for a good time.

If I'm elected I would spend some time in the summer trying to secure sponsorship for the club and prep other duties before the start of term 1. I'd try and reach out to brands such as afterjam or other ski and snowboard brands, and other companies that would be appropriate, I'd get creative with it. From a social point of view, I would be keen to help keep snowsports welcoming and non-cliquey.

Cheers
