Joey Leong

Hi, my name is Joey Leong, a year 2 law student, and I am running for the position of Secretary in Singsoc because I want to support my fellow Singaporeans and ensure they have the best time possible while studying in UCL.

Here are some things I can bring to the committee as Secretary.

Firstly, I do believe that I will be able to play a good supportive role as Secretary. I have transferrable skills regarding the effective completion of administrative activities such as minute taking, which I acquired from my law internship experiences at legal firms, my part time work at a company, and my volunteering efforts at the state courts. As such, the administrative activities and teamwork which the role entails would definitely be something I can capably do.

Secondly, I would absolutely love to contribute to the exciting events organised by the committee. I love London and believe I can share this enthusiasm for this wonderful city with my peers. With a love for new diverse cultures and unique food, and having been a reasonably seasoned traveller to London and the Cotswold in the past, I'm more than happy to share my thoughts, ideas and experiences for future events and maybe even day trips for the new freshers!

Ultimately, I hope to be part of next years' committee so that I may contribute to a happy year ahead for all the Singaporeans who choose to spend their university years at UCL.

Thank you!

Tan Wei

Hello everyone! I’m Tan Wei, a year 1 BSc Politics and IR undergraduate and I’m running to be UCL SingSoc Secretary!

Why am I running? Broadly, I’m driven by a desire to contribute to the SingSoc community! Being a committee member is a rewarding opportunity to serve in a society that performs the meaningful function of being a home away from home and reassuring Singapore students here that there is a community they can turn to in times of need. Why the position of Secretary? I find the role to be vital – in ensuring the society’s smooth administration, the Secretary guarantees that the society can focus on serving its members. Furthermore, having served as an administrative assistant in National Service and possessing a penchant for keeping things in order, there is alignment between my personal qualities and the role's functions.

If elected, I will ensure that things in SingSoc run like clockwork by ceaselessly identifying areas to streamline internal administration, such as optimising the organisation of documents to ensure ease of reference by committee members and enhance efficiency. I will also seek to strengthen the committee’s cohesiveness through vitalising internal communications and coordination. Finally, I will support my fellow committee members in realising their visions for the society.

It would be an honour to have your vote and I look forward to the opportunity of cultivating a welcoming and cohesive SingSoc community!
