Dhruv Agarwal

Hello fellow dancer,

I joined the salsa society last year and have absolutely loved my experience so far. Learning a new skill, making connections, and fun socials are just a few things I enjoy most about the society. I believe I am the perfect fit for the role of communications officer. Being passionate about dancing, I understand your passion and will be sure to keep you updated on everything that is going on so that you can dance, socialize, and have fun as much as you want. Moreover, I have excellent communication skills and am good with words. I am very approachable, open, and friendly and know how to take compliments and criticisms. You can tell me almost anything- a potential improvement, information on some event, or questions about the society- and you will get a quick response.

So, if you want a guy who is collaborative, lively, and responsive for your communications officer, vote Dhruv!

Aarushi Somani

Hey, I am Aarushi and I have been a part of the Salsa Society for almost a year now. I love to dance and I have trained professionally in hip-hop for the past 6/7 years. After the lockdown, I lost touch with dance and it was only after learning and doing salsa last term, that I realised how much happiness it gave me. I tried bachata this term too and now I not only look forward to Tuesdays, but Mondays too.

By being a part of the committee, I want to make sure, each member of this society has an experience similar to mine, where everyone around is so friendly and helpful, where we can all have fun and learn so much at the same time.

Being a Marketing Executive and then the Marketing VP of the UCL Investment Society, I have gained confidence in not only creating graphics and framing beautifully worded texts, but also handling professional social media pages overall. Given my friendly and approachable personality, I think I can be a good first point of contact for any member of the salsa society, therefore, a good fit for the role of the Communications Officer.

Let’s keep dancing!!

Alexa Wong

Hello! My name is Alexa and I'm running because I love our community and want to help carry on the legacy of the legendary Salsa society.

Stepping into the salsa scene last year has turned my life around (literally with all the double spins in intermediate) and joining the society has really given me something to look forward to every week in the face of ploughing through physics coursework.

I've really enjoyed being part of such an amazing community and I’d love to keep the salsa spirit blazing on next term as the Salsa Society Communications Officer.

Whether it’s welcoming new members, creating Canva posters for events, or advertising the weekly schedule on social media, I’m happy to put my incessant scrolling through Instagram and Facebook to good use by spreading the salsa and bachata gospel.

With all the group chat always being filled with invitations to Salsa Soho and Gabeto, I’d also like to start a community pinboard so people can continue arranging meet-ups outside of club organised socials! Other ideas include creating a guide to the various dancing spots in London and posting videos of our beautiful members dancing (especially when we tease performances for our showcase next year!)

Given the chance, I’d love to use my video editing skills, creativity, and past experience in event planning to communicate the happenings of the society, as well as put in the time, effort and dedication to serve you!

Tian Ahn Leow

Hello!

My name is Tian and I'm running for President. The reason is plain and simple - I really, really love salsa!

Those of you whom I've spoken to, whilst miraculously stepping on both your feet, simultaneously executing a poorly-signaled cross-body lead cum bachata helicopter hand flourish on the wrong side of my body, probably already know that I haven't been dancing salsa for a long time.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine salsa becoming the biggest part of my university life. Joining the UCL Salsa Society has been the single best decision I've made since coming to London. This society has exposed me to a culture, art form, and way of life that I could've never imagined myself stepping foot into, let alone loving as much as I do. Through the countless lessons, socials, and competition training sessions I've attended over the past 3 months, I've embarrassed myself, made new friends, and discovered a side of myself that I never thought I had in me. I want to let others experience this too.

I wish to spur the UCL Salsa Society to greater heights in the capacity of President. At the moment, the only Spanish phrase I know is 'dale papi', courtesy of my salsa competition teammates. This needs to change. I intend to grow alongside this society, and hope to have your support in doing so!

The only other thing I do that involves as much footwork is tennis, and I can safely say, I'm as much a salsa addict as I am a tennis one.
