Andrew Morrish

Hi there! My name is Andrew, and I would love to be your RUMS Sports and Societies VP.

RUMS has been an integral part of my time at university. My previous roles include on-field captain, treasurer, and this year, club president of RUMS Rugby. Running a RUMS sport or society is challenging, but I feel I can give valuable advice to incoming committees.

I want to ensure an equal platform for every club, irrespective of size. Therefore, I am proposing ‘takeover weeks’, where each club will have opportunity to run their own themed sports night and have access to the RUMS social media account, to promote taster sessions to increase engagement. I would also ensure that all RUMS varsity events are held on different days, so people will not need to choose which club they come and support.

The price of Sports Ball puts many people off attending. Through sponsorships and alumni engagement, I hope to keep the price of Sports Ball as low as possible.

I can remember feeling reluctant to join a sports club or society. Every president should be able to meet with first years to reassure them of the tolerant society we have built in RUMS. I will also support clubs in incorporating those who feel uncomfortable getting involved in-person. A welcoming space for incoming students is more important than ever!

The RUMS identity is very important to me. I vow to uphold our RUMS traditions and ensure that every event in the RUMS calendar runs as well as possible!

Thank you
