Rare FM: Social Secretary

Hey! So I've had a blast being a part of Rare FM in my first year. From hosting my own show, "Nothing Normal" in which I play obscure and underground music, I've been able to hone and explore my own musical tastes, get out some underrated tunes I believe should be heard more, and become friends with some great people. This comes back to the primary reason for why I'm standing for the role of social secretary. I think that being social secretary in my second year is the best way I can use my skills and ability to give back to Rare for providing such a rewarding experience in my first year. I think I would be a very reliable asset as social secretary, and my commitment to the society over the past year shows this. I have hosted my show every Saturday morning without fail, and have expanded beyond my alloted time, doing a two-hour show most weeks when an empty slot is available. My general goal as social secretary will be to bring members of the society closer together, while also opening everyone up to different tastes. I'd like Rare to be more closely-knit, where we all support and are knowledgeable of each other, rather than exist in isolation. To do this, I plan to continue the pub and club socials, as they've been a great way for us to get to know each other, but I also plan to organise socials revolving around underrepresented tastes, such as world music, experimental electronic, folk, jazz, and non-music topics such as sports commentary. Hey everyone, I would love to be your Rare FM Social Secretary! I have met most of you in the short time I’ve been social sec but want the opportunity to keep improving Rare FM’s social scene next year. I spent most of my first year organising themed events in my accommodation and want to take my party ideas to a whole new scale this year. I have a Friday show on Rare FM ‘The Friyay Show’, have attended many Rare FM socials and organised the most recent one at Phineas. Now I want to organise bigger and better events for our society. I have lots of ideas for socials to bring together the mixed members of Rare FM, for example, pub crawls, drinking games at UCL bars, quiz nights, group treasure hunts and many more. I’m also excited to help the Events manager organise more Rare FM club nights and live music collaborating with venues and our talented DJs. I know I can make our society into a community by creating events for our members to chat, play music together and have fun! Vote for me to make this year the best social year Rare FM has ever had!
