As a pole fresher this year and second year undergrad in Biology at UCL I found it difficult to socialize within the society due to the 500 members this year as well as the small number of people per classes. I've only just gotten beginner classes for this term and found it easy to make friends with girls in my group—I realized the issue with socialization this year isn't with the people (obviously!) but with time available to meet others.

As social sec and someone who loves a boozy night out and ALWAYS encourages one, I would organize meet-and-greet activities outside of sportsnight and open practice which might be intimidating to freshers—like pub quizzes (guests are welcome), comedy club night, non-boozy socials and maybe welcome drinks at the beginning of each term to encourage people to come to Phineas and Scala with people they've met. I will of course be there for all socials to look after everyone and make sure they have a good time, work on getting an established table at Phineas, and set up drinking games for sportsnight to engage and integrate freshers.

Pole families would be useful for the social side as well as with open practice, so people who couldn't get classes could come to socials with their pole family and not feel too intimidated. Especially with so many members, I think more events need to be created to foster a community feel within pole (because everyone's so friendly!). Thanks for your consideration and I hope I get your vote!

Pole provides both incredible health and social benefits for all our members, but I believe the social aid it provides could be widened and diversified - if we had a social sec! Socials can be a great opportunity to get to know others within the society, but also get to know other teams/societies with combined events. Due to the limited committee this year there hasn't been much chance to have a big focus on regular socials, but I hope that should there be a social sec we would have the opportunity, as a society, to get together regularly and create an even tighter knit community. Please vote for me :)
