To me, good journalism is the single most important thing that keeps us planted in the world in a meaningful way. Pi Media has always been my go to source about all things UCL but also the world and the part we as university students play in it.

With 6+ years of experience in journalism, it would be a reward for me to give back to Pi Online and make it a more robust daily publication that matches the standards of publications worldwide. I hope to significantly improve the collaborative engagement within the Pi Editorial Team and between the editors and students across UCL. If elected as Editor in Chief, I seek to make Pi Online the space I believe it can be to its fullest potential, where articles are published proportionally across sections, with more editor contributions and more collaborations between writers. I hope to foster greater team spirit within Pi and motivate people about student journalism not only as an opinions' medium but a way through which to hone and experiment with their writing; and learn from those who've done it for longer. To paraphrase David Samuels, I strive to make Pi a platform where the "facts can be verified, but the narrative" is ours - the students'.

Ultimately, I am standing for this position as I fervently believe that along with my Co-Editor; through organising sincere collective pitching, discussion and writer recruitment, we will truly be able to further improve and transform Pi in the coming year.

Sola Morota-Alakija

My experience growing up in African countries made me interested in inequalities and international relations. This, combined with my passion for writing, has inspired my interest in political journalism. As an English undergraduate student, I spend most of my time developing my writing technique and evaluating literary criticism, making me a qualified candidate to review the Pi Media online journals. Moreover, growing up in six countries and coming from four continents gives me the ability to approach this position from a uniquely international perspective. Therefore, I am running for this position to gain experience in the fields of literary publication and socio-political journalism, and in the hopes of further engaging with international politics.

Aidan T Dennehy

I am running for this position because I believe I can bring my passion for news and writing to the society. If elected, I would implement multiple reforms to increase article turnout including....

  • Creating dedicated teams of writers for specific subjects like politics, culture, social issues, etc. who aim to write a certain number of articles per week
  • Having a team of writers dedicated to breaking news
  • Reaching out to societies when an article has something to do with them and seeing if a member would like to comment/write

I currently write a weekly script for the PiTV news segment and have written a couple article for PiOnline. I study History, Politics and Economics here at UCL where I also participate in the UNA society as events director.
