Saimi Bouckaert

Heippa! My name is Saimi, and I would love to be your next Welfare Officer! Being half Finnish but having lived abroad my whole life, I have really enjoyed sharing and celebrating Nordic culture with other members of the Nordic Society during the past two years. As your Welfare Officer, I want to make sure everyone feels as safe and comfortable in the society as I do.

Whether you're Nordic yourself, or just interested in Nordic culture and languages, the society should feel like an inclusive and welcoming environment to you. Having previous experience on the committee of a political youth organisation, I am not afraid to take action if unpleasant incidents occur. I am also excited to switch it up and help out the other committee members here and there, so that we can organise the most interesting talks and language classes, and the best Nordic-themed socials!

Danilo Paganelli

Hey everyone! I'm Danilo and I would love to be your welfare officer! I love Nordic culture and languages so much (I am currently learning 3 - Icelandic, Finnish and Swedish - and hope to learn another 4 by the time I leave UCL). One thing that I would love to do in the society is offer language classes in rarer Nordic languages - such as Greenlandic and Faroese - with the Endangered Languages Society (a society that I founded) in order to give UCL students the chance to learn these amazing languages and help keep them from extinction. I'd also love to have some Old Norse lessons too! I am a very caring person and as your welfare officer, I will also here for all members and regularly check in and give resources and support to all members, and ensure that any problems are addressed and that feedback is collected regularly to make the society the very best it can be. I will be there for all members as much as I can and do anything to help. I also will help host things such as clubnights, food tastings, fundraisers, speed-friendings (and maybe dating..?) and many more fun events for our members! I have been on the committee of 39 societies this year (though I will not be on as many next year) and thus I have the skills and dedication to be part of the Nordic committee. I also hope to create a penpal system so that students can connect with other students abroad. Being part of the committee would be a dream come true and I will not let you down!
