Nicole Bloom

Hi! I’m Nicole, a first-year undergrad Psychology student, and I'm applying for the role of welfare officer! As I am sure for many of you, netball has played a vital role in helping me with my mental health after lockdown and starting uni this year. Having played netball all throughout high school, it’s been great to finally get back into a full season of netball again!

After a year in the club and playing for the 6s, I’ve been able to experience firsthand just how welcoming and accepting the girls are, as well as the truly determined nature of the team. As an international student, netball really has been my safe space this year, as being able to surround myself with a diverse group of supportive girls has really helped my mental health to flourish!

As welfare officer, I would continue to raise awareness of both mental and physical health, as well as plan more exciting events and activities for you all! I am keen to work closely with our local community and I would love for you all to have more of a say in what changes or volunteering events you would like to see happen! I know many of us have been impacted by the past two years, and through the role of welfare officer, I would ensure each member knows and feels that they’ll always have a friendly face that they can talk to, both on and off the court!

Looking forward to seeing what next year brings the club and hopefully meeting more of you netballers!

I am applying for this role as I want to play a bigger role in the club as well as getting to know others. I believe that I am a personable and approachable person who enjoys helping others and listening. I would love to play a role in ensuring that everyone in the club feels comfortable and knows that there is someone that they can turn to if needed. Sports are fundamental to improving mental health and I am keen to ensure that netball is a place where this can be done for everyone. I also have several ideas for fundraising that the club could participate in.

I’m coming to you with promises of therapy dogs and meditation sessions!

Moving towards normality this year has been really fun, but extremely overwhelming. Juggling the great social scene of UCNC and playing on a competitive or social team can be very demanding, and I would like to make sure that everyone feels that they can take some time within the club to relax and attend a social event especially catered for well-being.

We have already had a lot of great events this year that aren’t just Scala on a Wednesday such as Zumba, and I would like to host some more sessions like that which are catered to socialising and making team connections that are accessible to all.

I’d like to think that anyone can talk to me about anything, and as your Welfare Officer we can always go for a coffee or you can message me any time.

I’m also a massive dog lover and really think that there can never be too much dog love in people’s lives. If elected, I am going to try and get my own dogs certified over the summer as therapy dogs and if this fails there are some charities I can get in touch with to make this happen!

I’ve really enjoyed being a member of the club this year, and it has been especially rewarding being captain of the 3s, experience I hope to bring to this role.

Tilly xoxo

Alice McNally

Hi everyone, I'm Alice! I'm currently coming towards the end of my 2nd year of being a part of UCL Netball. After what has been such an enjoyable year as being on the committee as your PR Officer, I would love to step up into the role of Welfare Officer for the club and use the experience that I have gained over this past year to continue to make our club one of the most welcoming and inclusive sports societies that UCL has to offer.

As your Welfare Officer I would work hard to continue the work done by previous committees to improve the diversity and inclusivity of our club. This would include maintaining and building on partnerships with other societies in order to run 'Give it a Go' sessions and also introduce integrated socials.

One thing that I would like to see more of in our club next year are monthly drop-in sessions held on campus where anyone is welcome to come and take some time out of their busy schedule for some fun self care, even if it’s just to have a quick catchup! These sessions would include anything from the likes of yoga to face-masks, essentially any form of stress-free relaxation!

And finally, most importantly, as Welfare Officer I want to make sure that every member of UCNC knows that they always have a friendly face to turn to no matter what the situation. I am never one to turn down a chat over a coffee and will ensure that everyone in the club feels supported and that the netball love is shared.
