Daphne Sarkany

It’s that time of year again - hello! My name is Daphne, a second year Human Sciences student, and I’d love to be your Vice President next year. I’ve had an absolute blast this past year managing the lovely Concert Band, and have learnt a huge amount from the role - ranging from how to organise weekly rehearsals & several on-stage performances to the importance of post-rehearsal pubbing. I also lead the group in its first ever performance at the Bloomsbury Theatre. On top of all that, lugging timpani through the streets of London is definitely a tick off the bucket list! I’m primarily a trumpet player, but occasionally dabble in piano and clarinet playing too.

As your VP I would promote greater mixing between all ensembles, encouraging collaboration - in both a musical and social sense! As such a large and diverse society, I think cross-ensemble events would create that real sense of community. In addition, the Concert Band ethos of encouraging everyone to take part no matter their level is one I would spread further throughout the society. There is space for all, and I sincerely believe that enthusiasm is the most important factor when it comes to music making.

Looking forward to playing more music with you all in the coming year!
