Faye Tsai

Hi everyone! I'm Faye and I’d like to apply for the role of Community Outreach Officer! Having been in the committee for the past 2 years, I've had the opportunity to co-lead the Mentorship Programme and work with the Senior Team on ways to improve our society. I've gained a lot from my fellow committee members, and I’d still love to be a part of it all.

As Community Outreach Officer, I will be responsible for:

1) Keeping our society active throughout the year using our newsletter to connect our members to opportunities and the latest news in MedTech. I aim to include: links to various short videos and articles.

2) Work as part of the MedTech Portal Team to create a sub-committee team of writers to ensure regular and consistent uploading of materials onto our website.

3) Bring back the Hackathon to give our members the opportunity to practise transferable skills and meet like-minded people! I’d love to invite CEOs from start-up companies to share their journey. I aim to collaborate with the UCL Innovation and Enterprise department to run "entrepreneurship skills" workshops. If I am elected as Community Outreach Officer, I'm happy to take the lead on organising this event and work in a subcommittee team to bring this to life.

I really appreciate your time taken to read my manifesto. I hope to be a part of the committee again!

Maria Grabar

As a content creator, I will cover exciting events run by society and post recent Medtech news with a deep focus on the area that members choose as the most interesting. I am always open to suggestions about the way information is presented in the newsletter! :) Running a food blog contributes to the production of educational content. Having a lab-based job aimed to work with huge amounts of data honed my written abilities while studying biochemistry helps me understand technological processes used in medicine presenting complex concepts in a clear and fun way.

Gladys Ng Xin Yi

Hi everyone! I’m Gladys and I would like to run for the role of Community Outreach Officer. Having really enjoyed the events and talks organised by MedTech this year, I’ve realised that I yearned for opportunities to talk to other members to discuss issues and information learnt. During coding workshops I attended in-person, I had some interesting conversations with other members and want to strive for more of that. I hope to be able to introduce different platforms for members to socialise and share their thoughts regarding MedTech topics. I hope to make happen new ideas like creating a forum for members to discuss different topics on different threads. This would allow for sharing of information and opinions to occur, developing our stance on issues.

Together with other initiatives, as a community outreach officer, I look forward to:

  • Be responsible for the monthly newsletter, including current news, opportunities available for members etc. in the newsletters
  • Help increase members understanding of medtech and inspire? others to join our society
  • Organise and promote events together with committee members
  • Increase engagement within the society!

Having been in multiple leadership positions prior, I strive to incorporate the teamwork and communication skills I developed in this role if elected. I look forward to achieving my aims listed above and to help create a good time for all of us in medtech society!

Zsofia Simon

Hi Everyone!

My name is Zsofia, I'm a first-year Hungarian Mathematics student at UCL. I joined the MedTech society at the beginning of the academic year as I find the applications of different technologies in medicine truly fascinating. After getting my degree I would love to use my knowledge of applied mathematics in this field, and develop new solutions for ongoing questions in medicine. As Community Outreach Officer of the society, I would bring you what the future of medical technology holds, including society events, talks, conferences and news on programming, AI and machine learning applications in medicine.

A little note on my experience:
For two years I have been the president of my high school's Scientific Student Circle, organising talks and lab visits for students interested in STEM. I am also ambassador of the Hungarian Association for Women in Science (NaTE). I have experience in coding in Python, and I've also taken part in the World Robot Olympiad (robotics & programming competition).

I hope to be part of this amazing society, and I would be honoured if you voted on me.

Holly June Spencer

I believe MedTech members want a society that can support their studies and provide valuable networking opportunities. This is what I am committed to delivering for you if elected.

MedTech has a duty, through our newsletter, to facilitate growing interests in Medical Technologies. Two years ago, I co-founded a Medical Newsletter, detailing recent medical discoveries. This makes me the right candidate for this role as I am an experienced writer and editor.

Personally, I have an interest in the role of coding in medical technology, specifically within the study of blood clotting factors. I feel it is important that students, like me, who are passionate about innovations in medical technology can write about it. If elected, I would ensure you are afforded this opportunity.

I’ll use social media to help provide members with more opportunities to network with like-minded students, and to help members find and obtain internships. To do this I’d expand our social media presence, increasing access for both existing and prospective members.

Increasing feedback opportunities is a worthwhile cause, as feedback serves to ensure this society delivers on what students want. To achieve this, I’ll conduct surveys through the newsletter, in order to improve events run by MedTech.

I hope you’ll consider selecting me as your Community Outreach Officer. I feel the plans set out above would be beneficial to this society, and I would relish the opportunity to pursue them.
