Philippa A Crane

During freshers week when I had just arrived in London, the medieval tour of London was the first society event I attended and it made me feel welcome to the city and university life. Not only did I meet people with similar interests to me but I also learned some great anecdotes about London and UCL which were very useful for conversation starters! It was one of the first societies that I heard about that made me feel settled and made the whole experience of moving to university feel exciting rather than daunting. From this experience, I know how important societies can be to making people feel welcome and as a resource for when students are experiencing any kind of difficulties.

As Welfare Officer, I would ensure that members of the society could approach me for support on anything from studies to personal issues. I want to make sure that medieval soc remains an inclusive society for anyone who has an interest in medieval history and wants to get involved. If I was voted Welfare Officer I would organise fun and frequent socials as well as assist other members of the committee in organising events that will allow everyone to get involved and ultimately, just have some fun with medieval history!

I feel that I am well suited to the role of Welfare Officer as I am an approachable and hardworking person. I enjoy helping people and will always try to go the extra mile to support anyone who needs it.
