Having been Pathology Chair this year, I've learned a lot about the diversity of careers and research within this specialty. Speaking to clinical and academic pathologists and presenting at the Rani Rawji Studentship Seminar are experiences that have highlighted to me that whilst pathology often flies under the radar, it is integral to the practice of medicine and the delivery of care. That's why I want to continue working to increase the profile of this discipline within the medical school.

I've brainstormed lots of exciting ideas with this year's subcommittee and members of the undergraduate subcommittee of Pathological Society and would love to bring them to fruition. I hope to work on the following:

  • To set up connections between pathologists from a wide range of specialties and the medical school to improve awareness of their careers
  • To set up a dedicated social media page to provide career-specific and research-related information and to address myths about pathology
  • To signpost pathology taster sessions
  • To arrange talks on topical areas within pathology, such as machine learning, and its links to other specialties
  • To set up preclinical and clinical pathology tutorials

I would love to continue in this role in the upcoming academic year!
