Labour Society: Welfare Officer

I am a hardworking, reliable individual who thrives working alongside others. My out-going yet approachable personality gives me the ability to create strong relationships with a variety of people. Since arriving at UCL I have witnessed concerning events surrounding wellbeing issues. For example, my fellow peers in halls struggled to settle into the London\UCL lifestyle, so I included them in activities such as going for coffees and inviting them along to society events. In turn, giving them a sense of belonging and a sense that someone is looking out for them. If I was welfare officer I could further contribute to a wider range of individuals within the society. Indeed, I would dedicate my time and soul into the tasks and challenges that I face and bring an alternative and innovative approach to tackling such issues. Indeed, If elected I would put a significant amount care into assuring that members felt comfortable, safe and give them the confidence to express their political views with minimal anxiety and maximum passion. For me mental health and wellbeing should be a number one priority for all students at UCL, especially living in an age of extreme academic pressure and toxic mass social media; it is causing insecurities and unnecessary mental health issues. For that reason, I would do everything in my capability to assure a high standard of wellbeing within the UCL labour party ,and crucially I would go the extra mile for anyone struggling.

Hi, I'm Amber. I study History and Politics of the Americas, and I'm running for Labour Society Welfare Officer.

Having been an active member of Labour for a few years now, I am well familiarised with the structure of the Labour Party, and want to serve it and the student body as best as I can. I have previously held the roles of Ethnic Minorities Officer in MidEssex Young Labour, and was Women's Officer in the exec. of my previous constintuency's Labour Party.

I therefore believe I am well equiped to take on the role of Welfare Officer of the Labour Society at UCL, by supporting the executive committee, organising socials, and regularly checking in on members' mental health, and how current politics and discourse around it is impacting their welfare.

I also aim to increase the Labour Society's presence and membership at UCL, reaching as many students as possible to create a more positive future for us all.
