I have always found the Italian society to be a great community within UCL, as well as an opportunity to celebrate and build upon Italian culture. As someone who left their family in Rome to move to London, this has been particularly important to me. During my time here, I have really enjoyed the range of events organised by the society, from the socials and dinners to conversations with scientists and politicians. Wanting to get more involved, I decided to run as Welfare Officer. I am always up for a chat and happy to give any help or advice I can! I also had past experience with this role so I know what my responsibilities would be. I believe that in any community it is fundamental for everyone to feel at home and included. So should I get this role, I will do my best to ensure this. My aim is to make sure you all have the best time and that you get all the support possible.

Chiara Ottino

Hi!! I’m Chiara from Rome :))

I am a second year Maths and Stats student who loves art, coffee, puppies and berries, who enjoys spending time with friends, going out to eat and grabbing drinks >.<

I’m running as a Welfare Officer for the Italian Society cause in these first years of uni the Italian society has helped me meet amazing people and has made my experience at Ucl amazing and next year I would love to be an active part of the society myself.
As a welfare officer I'll make sure that every member will benefit from the society as much as I did, that everyone feels welcomed and at ease in all of our activities and I'll make sure that the society will provide the help and support that every student needs. I will be the one to talk to when you have any sort of problem, whether it’s personal or academic, or in case you have any suggestion for us to expand and improve the society .

At times studying abroad can be challenging but I can assure you that having a safe space to support you can be incredibly reassuring and can make home feel much closer. <3
I can’t wait to meet you all!!

Francesco Pierangeli

Ciao a tutti! I am Francesco, a proudly-Italian second year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student. After a marvellous (and finally in person!) year as a proud member of the Italian Society, I am excited to be running for Welfare Officer. Having lived my whole life in Rome, I know how a big part of being Italian is about being welcoming and opened towards people, not just Italian people but people from every social and cultural background that interact with our unique heritage. I strongly believe in inclusion and as your Welfare Officer I would strive to make the Italian Society even more inclusive and potentially a landmark for diverse people, Italians and non-Italians. My personal life and experience prompted me to believe that diversity is always a positive asset, and I would be ready to collaborate with Students' Union to improve and raise awareness on the wellbeing of our members, promote an inclusive environment also for underrepresented students and sign post members to wellbeing services if needed. My empathy and desire to always meet new people would make me able to be a point of reference for everyone's needs. What surprised me the most about the Italian Society, in the many events that I attended this year, is the "family" environment that can be felt, in the true Italian spirit, and I would be happy to further enhance this familiarity.

Feel free to message me @francescopierangeli if you have any questions!

Hope to see you all soon... Viva l'Italia!
