Rahul Malhotra

I am a keen sports player with my main sports being rugby, football, tennis and cricket, which is testament towards my keenness for the role of sports officer. Moreover, I believe my wide range of experience at a high level for all these sports will help enable me to expand the sports played within the society whilst maintaining this high level. The aims mentioned for a regular cricket and netball team is one that I heavily believe in as diversity of sports should be a constant aim, but also recognise the existing football team could be much more active through methods such as weekly games played between our own members. I have good organisational skills and organise weekly volunteers for homeless shelters, bakes sales, ect. as part of the law charity society, whilst collaborating with other universities which is why I think I would be a good fit for the role. I have been coaching tennis since the age of 14 which has helped develop a high level of professionalism which I believe to be essential to this role but ultimately it is my love of sports which is the reason why I am standing.

Indian soc has been one of the many pinnacles of my first year, the vast memories with friends I met through the society has only kept growing and upon potentially gaining a spot on the committee will allow me to contribute my passion for the society by having an influence. The sports director role is the perfect choice for me, as a competitor in many sports I’ve gained the experience and leadership skills required to organise competitions as well as social sessions for the society society. Upon gaining this position I hope to implement new ideas, many include; adding new sports such as badminton, organising competitive and social games with the target of our competitive squads to reach Indian soc nationals, as well as increasing female participation in sports. To increase sport participation within the society I’ll use my platform to reach out to the many sports society’s of UCL, to provide introductions for beginners who haven’t played the sport before in groups of people from the society, as many can find it scary participating in a sport with people they don’t know and aren’t the best at.
