Hi everyone! My name is Zara, and I’m running for the position of Marketing Director! I believe that I am capable of taking on this position as my past experiences have equipped me with skills that would enable me to take on this position and flourish in developing the marketing division of the Indian Society. Being a Social Media Manager along with a Marketing Strategist at local firms in my hometown, have immensely improved my creativity, designing, and editing skills. Additionally, my experience of being Head Girl in high school has provided me with leadership and organization skills, both of which would aid me in taking responsibility for my roles and commitments if I were elected.
As an approachable and bubbly individual, I strive to socialize with diverse individuals to increase the outreach of all opportunities presented by the society. I plan to:
- Strengthen the society’s branding by expanding social media presence on different platforms
- Effectively promote and advertise all events and opportunities in appealing manners by designing aesthetically pleasing posts on social media platforms
- Revamp marketing strategies by using word of mouth to persuade individuals to come to all of Indian Society’s wonderful events, especially Jashn!
As a goal-oriented individual, I hope to be the next Marketing director so I can help enhance the society’s presence and benefit all members of the society.
I would like the role of Marketing Director because I am excited at the prospect of being a part of an amazing team which I am able to contribute to by leading a specific area to result in a strong and successful society.
My suitability for the role can be defined by my passion for marketing and the experience I have had dealing with it. To name a few examples, I organised one of the biggest events in my secondary school which was a recreation of Dragons’ Den, I was the head of the school’s Jain Society and co-head of the Finance Society. All of these positions required leadership, presentation, teamworking and marketing skills which I feel helped me excel in each situation. Aside from school, I spent some time working in one of the UK’s most prominent advertising agencies, Saatchi & Saatchi. There I was able to learn about professional marketing as well as helping organising video campaigns for the company. In university through my course, I have been able to learn Photoshop which I think would be important in designing posters for the Society. Whilst experience is extremely important, I believe I also have the passion for the role and areas it concerns allowing me to stay consistently invested in the position.
I feel the value I could bring to the Society encompasses teamwork, motivation, positivity, and leadership. I would strive to be an integral member of the committee who is active in the team and a strong lead for the role.
My main motivation for applying to this role is to develop a greater understanding of my culture and to continue to meet those who can help me with this. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting people through the Indian Society events so far this year & believe I can contribute to the society furthermore through creating innovative designs and displays for the society. As an engineering student, and through the subjects I studied at school, I have some experience in using several design programs which will be beneficial in the Marketing Director Role when creating posts & advertisements for events. Alongside my degree, I have also co-founded a small baking business where I have some experience in advertising through social media posts & in-person communication. Both this experience and being a part of the organisation of an Indian dance event in my secondary school have taught me how to work well with a range of other people. I believe the experience & time management skills I have acquired so far will be invaluable in this role and I look forward to assisting with Indian Society events in the future.
