The return to (almost) normality has been as good as we ever hoped for. Although I didn’t join UCLWHC in 2020, being a part of it in my second year has definitely been one of the highlights of my university experience. We are lucky to be part of such a fun, supportive community, that also takes volunteering and sustainability seriously! I would love to be the Volunteering and Community Outreach Secretary next year and make sure we continue being an active society in all things charity-related!

This year we got involved with different charities, but I think it would also be great to find an organisation we can support throughout all of next year. I’d definitely be open to suggestions of causes that matter to us, but I have some in mind, like the Survivors Trust or the Pink Ribbon Foundation. For these, I would love to have monthly events (such as pub quizzes, fundraising races) to raise money and awareness - alone as well as with the men’s club. I would also organise the usual yearly events like Coppafeel, Sustainability Week, etc.

I take volunteering very seriously, having been involved with different associations since High School, and I believe I would be an ideal candidate for the position. If you want to help make great things happen while having fun, make me your Volunteering Secretary! If all of this babbling hasn’t convinced you, I'm sure the little (and very creative) poem I will read at the AGM will nudge you in the right direction.

Hi Everyone!

I would love the opportunity to be your volunteering and community outreach sec this year!

Hockey has become a great part of my uni experience this year and I am glad to be part of such a lovely club and team. I had the chance to get to know the club this year and would love to use my experience to develop and push the club in our volunteering.

As your volunteering sec I want to make sure our contributions are fun while of course being meaningful. Volunteering is a great way for us as a club to connect and get to know each other through some classic INtegration, while also connecting with and helping the wider local and global community. I want to take the chance to promote this within our club and try and get as many involved as possible to continue to develop our club and build on our achievements from the past through key volunteering events like Coppafeel.

My past experience would greatly help me in this role as I have worked with UNICEF Netherlands for example to support children in need around the world by providing energy bars, crucial for their survival. Some events I was thinking of would be to continue our sponsored pub quiz or work together with the charity 4Ocean or Coral Gardeners during our sustainability week to support our oceans. I would work closely together with you and the club to discuss future ideas and determine the charity or charities we want to support.

I love being a part of UCL hockey and feel like volunteering and community outreach sec is such an important role. Charlie and Amy did a really great job this year and have made an impact with so many different charities which I would like to continue. I would also like to focus on community outreach more this year (getting involved with some charities around Camden etc). Furthermore I'd like to make sure everyone at hockey who would like to get more involved with volunteering has a good idea of what things are available to do and keep people more updated on volunteering opportunities. Aside from it being able to help you feel more involved with the wider community; I've found this year that the events tied in with volunteering have also been really nice opportunities to get to know more people in the club as well as so am looking forward to (if elected) organising those. Finally, it would also be very fun to try and get the 3 peaks challenge to happen next year.
