Lucy Williams

This year I really feel that I have proved my dedication to both UCLWHC and the 2s, through turning up to training sessions, playing matches, cheering from the side line, or participating enthusiastically in socials. I like to think that I am a sociable, friendly, and approachable player and would love for next years freshers to enjoy hockey just as much as I do, and to feel a welcome and valued part of the 2s.

I may have had a mental, embarrassing, messy first term, and I may no longer be able to stomach the taste of snakebite, but I truly believe that this will make me a better captain. I have learnt responsibility (for myself) and resilience (towards making it to Scala), and I have now built a strong, first-name-basis relationship with the Phineas bouncer and so if any of our new freshies decide to follow in my footsteps, we can work together to keep them safe and sound on a Wednesday night.

If I am chosen to be 2s cap I would like to:

  • Communicate with 1st and 3rd team captains to ensure that commitment to training and matches is recognised, and team placement is earned, not taken for granted.
  • Parallel to this, ensure that no one feels that their efforts or skills are being overlooked, and that members of other teams feel comfortable telling me if they feel that themselves or others should be considered to play in the 2s.
  • Arrange socials with other teams involving games (read: icebreakers but less cringe) to form more integration between the women’s club.
  • Keep up team socials as we have done this year: meals, ball and
