Angona Sarkar

My first year has been an amazing journey thanks to the stunning events arranged by the UCL Hindu Society. Being at the heart of organising such astounding events as part of this society would be a true honour. Additionally, meeting more people and making new friends via liaising for events is a bonus I would not miss!

I have learnt several things/skills from being part of the society as a fresher that I could contribute towards making the social aspect of the Hindu Society even more extraordinary than it already is. For instance, as a choreographer for Rangeela this year, I successfully organised meetups and icebreakers for everyone in my act, the testimonial to which is conveyed through the success that the show was and the several new friendships that we all gained! I also have experience of organising many charity fundraiser socials for my school/college which were a true success as evident from how praised they were.

I have several unique ideas that has the potential of adding great value to the Hindu Society making it more magnificent than ever! If successful as social-secretary, I can assure you Hindu Society will have an event for every occasion and everyone!

Aashna Keswani

Hi, my name is Aashna and I wanted to apply for Social Secretary because I think that social events are so important in order to build a sense of community between members of a society. Aside from the big events we have such as Diwali ball or Rangeela, I feel like nights out or even just chill meet-ups are so important to make sure we get to know each other well and I would be so excited to organise these!

Being an FYR has meant that I was lucky enough to see the process of organising different socials but I am also just very approachable, so I am more than happy to listen to and implement any specific meet-ups / game nights next year. Volunteering throughout the years and my part time job at the moment has proved to me how important communication is within a team so I am confident that I can relay ideas and keep the community spirit high within the society throughout the year.

This HSOC family is genuinely something I’m so grateful for so just know that I’m committed to making sure every member of this society feels the same amount of love and support I’ve felt this past year :)

Siya Bhandari

Hi, my name is Siya, I’m an Architecture Student from NW London and I’m applying to be Hindu Society’s Social Secretary! I think I would be a great fit for this role because I’m a very outgoing and sociable person and love getting involved in events. My aim is to make Hindu Soc the place for all your SPORT, ACADEMIC and most importantly SOCIAL needs. In particular, the Diwali Ball and Rangeela are some of the best events of Hindu Soc and I think it’s time to make them bigger and better than ever before! I would love to be the person that can make this happen. Something else I hope to bring to the table is making connections with other Hindu societies and getting us involved in as many inter university competitions and joint events as possible. As social secretary, my main goal would be to organise a whole range of inclusive events that help everyone meet some great friends and make unforgettable memories!

Ria Bhalla

I am standing for this role firstly cause i'm a desi girl, I love getting involved and making myself and my friends a part of all social events, especially desi ones. I have volunteered at my local library, where I worked independently with young children and adults to  led a crafts class where I was involved in making flyers and poster for my borough, empowering my aplomb. I developed my communication skills efficaciously and completed all tasks competently. I thoroughly enjoy organsing and planning social events and getting everyone involved. My enriching work experience at Lloyds Banking Group in 2019 gave me an insight about working in the financial sector. Both the work experiences were intriguing and valuable as they gave me exposure of work ethics, self-discipline, business management and dealing with people of different mindsets. I worked closely with team leaders and Project Managers in Finance and IT on various software development processes and tasks in a commercial organization and therefore I am organised and will ensure all financial targets are met. Overall I feel that I can bring out the success of each event and with an insta following of over 1.6k I believe I am competent enough to promote events over social media to ensure all events sell out! I hopefully look forward to being a memeber of the Hindu society committee and bringing out the best desi events of the year.

Aditi Zamvar

Hi! I’m Aditi and I’m a first-year law student, and I will be running for the role of social secretary.

Hindu society has played a massive part in my first year at UCL. Through this society, I have managed to meet some amazing people and I would love to be a part of the committee for the following year.

Having been selected as House Captain, I worked in a team and was responsible for organising many different events and coordinating groups of up to 200 students. In addition, I restarted the law society in Year 13 in which I scheduled for speakers to come in. These experiences have taught me the importance of teamwork, organisation, and communication which I will be able to put to use in this role.

These are some ideas I hope to bring in the coming year:

  • Keep the families scheme going throughout the year.
  • Organise some inter-university events. There is already a large community of Hindus here at UCL and it would be a way to build an even bigger community for students in London.
  • Introduce more events which showcase our culture.
Jaymin Shah

Hey, I’m Jaymin and I'm a first year Medic. I love getting to know new people and I believe that I would be the perfect candidate for the role of Social Secretary.

Over the course of my gap year, I worked in a COVID vaccination clinic as the main source of communication between the administration and clinical teams. This hugely bolstered my organisational and team-working skills, as I had to work closely with the NHS staff to ensure the smooth running of the busy vaccination centre. As Social Secretary, these skills would enable me to meet with other members of the committee to coordinate and create fun and exciting social events (just like the trademark events of Rangeela and Garba)!

As part of my school prefect team, I was involved in setting up many successful charity events, one of which raised over £700 for the well-known foundation, Samaritans. These experiences developed my marketing and promotional skills, as I had to figure out new ways to attract students to get involved with the fund-raising activities. If I were given the opportunity to be your Social Secretary, I would utilise these skills to arrange a wide variety of events, including inter-university and inter-society activities, that are inclusive and bring new and current members of the society together to have a good time.

Vote for me and I will continue to make UCL Hindu Society one of the best and biggest cultural societies in London!
