Ekta Barot

Our Hindu society is at the forefront of Hindu representation here at UCL, I have always derived utility from learning more about Hinduism through attending a multitude of events at the mandir and joining the pandava sena at ISKON. These have enabled me to build a close community and lifelong relationships where we discuss different elements of our life and work towards improving holistically as a person. This experience has truly been enriching and developed me and my ideologies which I wish to share at university and provide students with a safe environment and vibrant events to also build intellectual and social relationships through Hindu society. This opportunity will allow me to represent a religion I am passionate about and further engage the Hindu community here at UCL.

priyam gore

Hi I’m Priyam and I’m a first year maths student. I believe that this role is perfect for me because I have developed a deep understanding and enthusiasm for our religion through attending weekly classes at the Mandir. My outgoing personality allows me to build connections both with other UCL cultural societies and other London Hindu societies, holding collaborative events. As religious officer I would be very enthusiastic to run classes, perhaps similar to those that I have been involved with, in order to spark interest and debate, open to all students. I have seen how eye opening that classes and talks are, which can also be a great opportunity to make new friends but also learn from our peers. I hope to make next years’ events inspiring and fascinating as religious and interfaith officer for UCL’s Hindu society.

Bhavini J Bhatt

I believe that recognising faith and belief is vital for an inclusive society. I am a British-born Hindu who has experienced personally, the flexibility and joy of our religion. During my first year at UCL, I have participated in the beautiful festivals of Navratri garba and the Diwali Ball. I would also like to see our Hindu Society celebrate Hindu events like Holi, Mahashivratri and Saraswati Puja. I would like to be part of a team that promotes our Hindu Dharma and also want students to be able to experience and celebrate the diversity, joy, colour and music of our festivals.

Pragnya Dara

As a Hindu myself, I believe in creating a community where fellow Hindus and non-Hindus can come together to celebrate all the beautiful traditions, rituals and festivals of Hinduism. I believe Hinduism has a lot to offer, and I can try to play my part in bringing its cultural and moral elements alive to everyone.

As Religious and Interfaith officer I will try my best to:

- organise Poojas and Aarthis so everyone can immerse themselves in melodious Bhajans and meet like-minded people to connect with

- host events with speakers passionate about the field to allow students to begin to appreciate the wonders of Hinduism

- conduct charity events such as food drives, fundraiser events such as talent shows to make sure we are in line with core Hindu values

- collaborate with Hindu societies from other universities by hosting quizzes on Hinduism, cultural competitions and build meaningful relationships

- hold exhibitions showcasing the origins of Hinduism and its significance, how it has changed over time so those new to Hinduism have opportunities to learn about it

Experiences in the past that will help me with this role:

- organising cultural events for British Indian Medical Association as the dance coordinator

- hosting events as the founder of Koffee & Kaburulu, a cultural platform for Telugu-speaking students
