Zana Blakcori

We've had amazing events this year and I would definitely like to carry that forward next year, especially our collaboration with the UCL Sign Language Society.

It is so important to raise awareness around the many different areas of Speech and Language Therapy, as shown this year. I'd plan to hold talks from various areas and include those that are member suggested.

However, it is also important to have social events. In addition to the popular pub quizzes, I would love to plan events such as a Christmas ball or dinner, trips around London, picnics or movie nights.

Ying Tung Kwok (Claire)

As this year's communication officer, managing the twitter account not only allowed me to promote our events and spread awareness, but engage with various SLTs, SLT2Bs in the field. I also cohosted a podcast episode with East Asian SLTs, and enjoyed every part of the organization process. From liaising with the speakers, brainstorming ideas with the committee, to arranging logistics of the recording, I developed strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, and would love to bring it forward to the GV community next year!

If elected, I aim to:

1)  provide job application tips for current Msc students

- organise alumni-student mingle events, to share their interview tips, and NQP experiences.

2) organise talks/ webinars with service users and professionals in the field, to raise awareness for communication and swallowing difficulties

-e.g. invite researchers of aphasia, SLTs, and service users to share their experiences during aphasia awareness month.

3) increase bonding between year A and B students

organising monthly pub quizzes, baking socials and movie screenings for the entire cohort.

[of course, this is all dependent on the members' interests! I would like to send out a questionnaire at the start of each term, so all ideas are welcome:)]

Thank you for reading my manifesto, if I am elected, I promise to make the school year fun and educational with with my fellow committee members!
