Rishi Virani

Hi! I’m Rishi and I’m running for VP of Research! As a Technology Correspondent currently writing for the FinTech Review (FTR), I’ve seen the depth of the research articles produced over a multitude of topics. With the amount of research given to the FinTech industry continuously growing, I hope to encourage students to explore the innumerous developments in FinTech through the following ideas:

Outreach – despite the FTR producing high quality articles, I feel as though more people could explore the publication! With many students finding opportunities online, social media marketing will be a top priority, including encouraging correspondents to share their articles online.

I believe collaboration with other student publications will also help the FTR reach a wider demographic, as well as encourage correspondents to broaden their knowledge.

Being the Press Officer of my school, I have extensive experience with media representation and marketing.

Collaboration – work closely with Client Relations to source industry leaders who can speak to students about their research in FinTech. This will allow students to gain direct insight into the industry, network, and ask questions.

Social events – I would like to encourage more social interaction between the FTR correspondents. Societies are places to meet new friend, not only write articles!

As the VP of Research, I look forward to expanding student knowledge in such an interesting industry!

Hi, I’m Felix, and I’m running for FinTech Society’s VP of Research position!

As a Public Policy correspondent and First-Year representative of the UCL FinTech Review, I have hugely enjoyed creating and promoting the publication’s original content. As VP of Research, I hope to build on the FTR’s success through the following agenda.

  • Engagement: The FTR publishes seven articles at once, each half term. I will replace this with a weekly publication. Requiring no additional correspondent commitment, my new cycle will reduce and standardise editorial workload and create consistent output from the review, boosting its engagement. I aim to publish original content every week for over 80% of terms 1 and 2.
  • Marketing: I will collaborate with FinTech’s marketing division to produce a weekly email newsletter promoting the FTR’s latest content. Combined with an increased social media presence, I hope to double average article views
  • Podcasts: I will create a bi-termly podcast overview of what the FTR has published over the last half of the term. Correspondents and editors will be invited to introduce their research and its key implications.

Having written for and promoted the FTR over the last six months and led a team that produced a top 200 EdTech iOS app in June 2021, I have the knowledge and experience to lead FinTech’s research division to new heights. I hope to have your support in doing so!

Truly we are both blessed and cursed to be born in this generation. Cursed to a world with the shackles left by our forefathers manifested in climate change, decaying social nets, and an ending stream of pain. Yet blessed to witness and be given the opportunity to grasp our fortunes in a time of unparalleled technological revolution.

Crazy headline aside, hi, I'm Sam, and the mad rambling above is what FinTech means to me. FinTech represents the future of one of the biggest industries in the economic history of man, and I have a dream - no, a vision for FinTech Review in raising the profile of FinTech in public consciousness. I see the potential for FTR to grow and help others like ourselves find their place in an everchanging world by ensuring we provide the information people need, and reach the people who need it.

I myself am a researcher at heart. I love delving deep into topics, and have been interested in FinTech since the 2017 crypto bull run. I know what it's like on the other side of the writing team too - I've written articles and posts garnering over a million views on various social media sites, and as an Editor with UCL Writers' Society, I'm familiar with the processes and difficulties of ensuring what you produce is truly what you want to convey.

You may not see a way out today, but tomorrow the sun will rise once more. Let us embrace the dawn together!
