Hi everyone! I am a second year Comparative Literature student running for Welfare and Alumni officer. You may know me as this year’s Screening Producer, but I am also the Welfare Officer for UCL Amnesty, so I am very well acquainted with the mental health resources available at UCL and can direct society members to those if needed. I have undergone welfare training by the student union so understand what is expected of me and know how to deal with various problems.

As a queer person of colour, I understand more than most people the importance of making sure our society is open to anyone and everyone. I will make sure that all our events (workshops, screenings, socials) are always inclusive and accessible to every type of student. I have heard people say that they feel too judged to come to screenings or socials because they think that they haven’t watched ‘enough movies’. It would be my job to make sure hardly anyone thinks that, and if anyone does, I will make sure to change their mind! As Screenings Producer this year, I made sure I created a inclusive environment by having a very diverse selection of movies – both in genre and language – and so made sure there was something for every person to love.

I am very excited for the new outreach responsibilities added to this role. I am currently a part of the FOMI team (as the Screenings Producer) – an experience that I am sure would begin to prepare me for the new part of this committee role.

Hello! I love Film Soc, the people are great and the opportunities are incredible. I'd love to come on board the committee as welfare & alumni officer to help support our valued members. First and foremost I'd want to be a friendly face who you can approach with any query or concern, as I appreciate how daunting a society as large as ours can be, and how challenging production is. My number one priority will be YOUR happiness within the society. It's important to me that both BAME and LGBTQ+ members are supported within the society, so I'd especially want to look at ways to ensure there is a voice for EVERYONE in Film Soc. I'd want to be involved in ensuring the productions are a space for both the experienced and inexperienced, so everyone can benefit from the work we so love to do. It would be a great task to be the alumni officer, helping bring ex-members of the society back so they can give us their words of wisdom. Knowing a few ex-members, I can promise their skills and advice would be extremely valuable, so I'd work hard to try and create a network between those past and present. But if you simply love film and want to be a social member, let me be a friendly face you can approach to talk to any time. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
