Varun Kamoji

Hi everyone! I’m Varun, a first-year Economics and Statistics student.

EFS has grown rapidly over the past few years and as the Welfare Officer, I aim to further solidify its status as UCL’s largest society by working towards its ambitious goals.

Diversity is crucial to the success of any organisation, and this makes EFS unique due to the varied backgrounds of its members and the exchange of new ideas. I plan to take this forward by prioritising events targeting female and BAME students, such as talks by guests from underrepresented backgrounds, providing a first-hand insight into their experiences in breaking into finance.

Balancing university work alongside applying for spring weeks or internships can be extremely stressful, so I plan to organise mental health workshops to help with workload and stress management, with insights from students that have had similar issues and advice on how to reduce anxiety.

Finally, I wish to make EFS more visible through increased social media presence and cheaper tickets for events to ensure more students gain the opportunity to take advantage of the society’s unforgettable experiences.

As Welfare Officer, I will do my utmost to re-establish EFS as an accessible, diverse and inclusive society in which everyone will feel welcome. I hope your vote can help me!

Rhea Shah

Hi, I’m Rhea, a first-year economics student and I’m running for welfare officer.

As a committed member of the Economics and Finance Society, I believe welfare is a fundamental part of ensuring the society runs successfully. It is important that everyone feels welcomed in this society and I want to ensure that this is an inclusive and diverse environment for everyone with equal access to opportunities. I believe that my strengths of organisation, communication, and teamwork align well with the qualities for this role. I want to put forth the idea of having drop-in sessions both online and in-person where you can address any issues or queries you may have, which I will act on to improve the welfare of our society. This will be an anonymous community and create a safe space where you can talk about mental health or challenges faced. Continually Incorporating feedback is important to ensure everyone feels included and improve the welfare of the society. I want to encourage a greater emphasis on campaigns that promote diversity and inclusivity, an important part of progressing as a society. If given this opportunity, I aim to bring an environment that will benefit everyone.

Please feel free to talk to me if you have any questions :)

Melodie Li

Hi everyone :)

I’m Melodie, BSc Economics and Statistics student hoping to be your Welfare Officer. I know how important it is to feel like you truly belong in a safe and accepting community where people can be themselves, so my first priority will always be Your Welfare.

About why I fit this role…
• Have worked as a helpline volunteer at Youth Talk for six months, speaking and listening to the struggles and mental health issues of vulnerable teenagers.
• Great interest in researching mental health and wellbeing, completing a research project on the psychological impact of participating in digital feminism for female survivors in #Metoo.
• Always commented by friends as a good listener that can engage others in natural and easy conversation to find out how they are getting on.

About my key goals as the Welfare Officer…
• Organizing welfare awareness events and adopting a special focus on increasing diversity, inclusion and accessibility through event series, multi-platform feedback channels and close cooperation with other EFS officers and the Students' Union.
• Introducing drop-in hours so everyone can come to me with any campaign or welfare ideas they want to discuss.
• Managing the Welfare Officer Funding Pot properly to make sure it’s delegated evenly and democratically.

We all may need help at some point in our lives and I would love to make EFS Society a place in which everyone can find support and feel part of something.
