I want to make sure that the productions and events we put on are reflective of the diverse population at UCL, and that we give creative voices from minority groups a much larger platform. As an active member of drama society this year, I have noticed unaddressed biases in casting decisions that put POC actors at a disadvantage, and an absence of exclusive opportunities. These are problems that I feel very strongly about, and I desperately want to redress them.

As the current Head of Marketing and PR of drama soc, I have gained sufficient experience of the way that things are run on a committee-level and am readily prepared for the commitment that this role entails. I will keep an eye on the casting processes for shows by sitting in during auditions and interview panels, so I can actively ensure that selection processes do not inadvertently discriminate against people from minority groups. I will actively reach out to more BAME cultural societies so that our community network can be more diverse, and more POC can get involved in productions with higher levels of influence and positions of responsibility.

I hope to make the drama community at UCL more welcoming to everyone next year as the Diversity and Inclusion Rep. I have very much enjoyed putting on different shows through drama soc this year, and I would love to get more people involved from the diverse pool of talent at UCL.
