Sonya Shydlyk

Hey,

I’m Sonya, and I’m running to lead UCL UA through its next phase of growth. True value of UCL UA lies in people, who share the belief of supporting Ukraine and our community despite forces which may go against our plan. I want to lead impactful society and I can promise UCL UA will continue to be one.

Currently I’m a Strategy Director in UA.Youth, where I worked with Superhumans Centre by co-organising a series of lectures, roundtable in House of Commons and other community outreach events. This was a little start from which I saw that I can lead a team, and I want to lead a team of UCL UA to bring interesting people, collaborating with other universities and just have some fun.

Since it is my final year at UCL, I want to make my impact  memorable:

  • Inviting inspiring companies and figures who you will truly want to listen
  • Expanding direction of our events to not only lectures, but career opportunities and cultural, creative initiatives
  • Efficient work of the committee to run society smoothly, engaging all members of our society to keep supporting Ukraine
  • Simply, social events where we can feel at home and enjoy a great company

UCL UA is home for me, and I want to make it one for you. UCL UA has already shown it stands strong on its values, and it will continue to do so. I want to build on what we already have, and create an even more inspiring and strong community, because that is what Ukraine is about.

If you share this vision, I'd be honoured to have your vote, thank

Sasha Besedovska

Hey there!

My name is Sasha, and I am so excited to run for President of our fast-growing UCL Ukrainian Society!

It's been an honour to serve as your Social Secretary this year. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together—whether it was fundraising for Ukraine at our club night (which I helped put together), hosting academic and cultural events with incredible guests  like Sviatoslav Vakarchuk, Vadym Granovskiy, Andrew Wilson, Halyna Yanchenko, among many others, or making our society a true “home away from home.” None of this would have been possible without the heart of our society - our members. Thank you for showing up, donating, and helping us raise awareness and bring victory closer.

If elected:

• I will make memberships cheaper to broaden our impact and accessibility at UCL;

• I guarantee that my members will enjoy a BLACK-TIE BALL!! and lots more formal and informal socials :)

• I’ll keep building a welcoming space for all, grow inter-uni collaborations, and strengthen our ties with the wider Ukrainian community;

• I’ll expand networking with professionals and other students across the UK;

• We will continue fundraising money to support Ukraine in every way we can!

In last year’s elections, I promised to organise engaging events that bring us together—and I delivered. Now, I’m ready to take our society even further.

My motto is that there is power in unity. Together, we’ll keep building, keep growing, and keep supporting Ukraine.

Slava Ukraïni!
