I don’t come from an architecture background like many Bartlett students do. I’m currently studying an MEng in Sustainable Built Environments, Energy and Resources at the Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources. I see this as part of the value I could bring to SEAD: widening the outreach to sustainable building design as well as architecture, linking the two and providing valuable industry links that span across sectors.
Many of us know how difficult it can be to break into the built environment and/or architecture industries, and how they’re often painted as inaccessible. As someone who came to UCL from a state school, I know how important it is to make these spaces seem open and genuinely reachable for future students. This is why outreach to schools and underrepresented communities really matters.
I want to support SEAD by helping connect with both the industry and wider communities. This could mean reaching out to early-career professionals, recent grads and established professionals, but also collaborating with schools or societies that aren’t traditionally included in design spaces. Overall, I want to help make SEAD more open, visible and welcoming to people who don’t already feel part of the conversation; and bring a bit of subject variety to the society, which would benefit everyone!

This role presents a valuable opportunity to bridge the gap between students and industry by organizing meaningful office visits and firm interactions. I am enthusiastic about reaching out to companies, building professional relationships, and creating opportunities for our members to gain insight into real-world practices. I believe that firsthand exposure to leading firms not only inspires but also informs our future careers, and I am committed to making those experiences accessible and enriching for everyone in the society.
