Hello, I'm Sophia, a first-year geography student and a dedicated sailor, nominating for Vice Commodore of UCL Sailing 25/26.
Since sailing at 8 years old, I have had plenty of racing experiences in ILCAs, team raced at high school, and also done some keelboat stuff. As the former Commodore of my high school sailing club, I've gained the skills of running a team, organizing events, and making sure people show up on time (or at least vaguely on time). Despite only joining UCL Sailing in Term 2 after recovering from injuries (the typical back problems from laser sailors), I sailed for UCL all the way to BUCS Finals and can’t wait to get even more involved! Whether helming or crewing, I love the thrill of competition and want to help UCL dominate BUCS..
Beyond racing, I’m keen to bring more events, collaborations, and socials to the club, making sure we’re not just fast on the water but also a very close community on land. There’s plenty I’m eager to learn from my fellow sailors, but I’m confident I can be a reliable and proactive addition to the committee next year. Let’s make 2025/26 a legendary one for UCL Sailing! ⛵⛵⛵
