Over the past three years, I have been a dedicated member of the Polish student community, serving first as an Officer and later as Head of Events during the annual UCL Leaders Conference. These roles, combined with regular participation in Polish Society events, have given me meaningful insight into the diverse experiences and challenges faced by our members—from academic pressures and homesickness to cultural adjustment and the need for genuine social connection. I believe that our Polish Society can become a unique safe space where people connected by a shared culture feel especially comfortable and understood. In the role of Welfare Officer, I would work to strengthen that sense of belonging by offering both individual support and community-driven initiatives that prioritise well-being. I would be available as a confidential and approachable point of contact, serving as a bridge between the society and UCL’s professional support services. I also aim to support the Events Officer in launching low-pressure events such as casual meetings at coffee shops/bars as wells at UCL while making sure they are accessible and welcoming to all, especially taking into account things like dietary preferences or financial limitations.
Being part of the Polish Society has greatly enriched my experience at UCL, and I would be honoured to give back by serving as your Welfare Officer, ensuring that every member feels as supported and connected as I have felt over the years.
