I am standing for this position because I am frustrated with the little research guidance younger year students receive. In a time where research is important for pursuing specialities and speciality applications continue to get tougher it is important to ensure equality with these applications.
I propose creating a central database of research contacts and opportunities for every speciality. We should work in conjunction with surgical society and provide a database of possible projects and supervisors who are willing to supervise students. This will provide a go to place for students keen to publish and present. Access to the database will be given via a competitive application.
It is also important to equip students with skills needed to pursue research hence I suggest creating a research teaching series where we go through the basics of how to do a systematic review and how to do basic statistical techniques.
I will deliver on my promises and make research equitable!
