I hope to bring integrity, competence, group-working skills and hard work to our History Society if I am elected as its Treasurer. I would help to organise new events with the committee. I would also advocate broader event advertising on the SU website and on WhatsApp.
I have enjoyed engaging with the Society throughout this academic year, and I am sure that I can speak for many of us when I say that I was grateful for the very warm welcome I received as a fresher. Now, I would like to contribute my time to help run our wonderful Society.
I worked as part of a team running my school’s History Society, for which I gathered articles for a journal, and rapidly organised a Christmas quiz when the traditional one became impossible. I believe that this experience will be useful in helping to run our own History Society, should I become Treasurer.
The new leadership of the Union aims to reduce prices at bars and cafés funded by cuts in the Union’s expenditure. We can hope that this will not reduce our grant funding, given that the President-elect of the Union aims not to ‘impact students’. However, if our funding is impacted, I would work hard and pragmatically in the role alongside the other committee members to allow our Society and our events to blossom.
Hey, you there!
I'm standing for History Society Treasurer. Here's why you should vote for me:
I want to...
- Ensure plenty of free or low-cost activities for History Society members.
- Maintain clear communication with other committee members regarding History Society assets.
- Provide History Society with responsible financial management!
If you're into excellent fiscal policy, I might just be the candidate for you.
As I've always said: Live, laugh, History Society Accounting :)

History has always been my favourite subject - being treasurer for the history society would allow me to be accountable for it.
Working as a Fine Dining Team Supervisor and a Transition Mentor, I have loads of experience in understanding what people value and what their needs are. Being the society's treasurer would allow me to allocate funds in a way that reflects the society's and the department's targets.
From my leadership experience in these people-facing roles, I got an 8 in maths GCSE and following a consultancy programme, I am confident in my ability to be able to handle the financial aspect of the History Society.
With the History Department, I joined an international seminar group, which allowed me to cultivate my appreciation of public history and history beyond my degree. Throughout my first year, the History Society helped me make many of my close friends: I want to use the treasury to enhance and foster the community of the department and university, through UCL's History Society.
