Bukky Adebowale

Bestiess how y’all doin? My name is Bukky, I’m from Ireland and I’m studying a MSc in Reproductive Science and Women’s health (Super interesting I promise?). I’m a beginner-elementary ish poler ?and just started pole as a regular for the first time.

Some of you may have seen me floating about with green braids (which is likely to change to some other colour on the rainbow soon lol). If I haven’t met you, let’s pole sometime at open practice?

I’m running for postgrad rep because I’ve always had a passion for people who don’t typically find their sense of belonging. Going into my postgrad, I realised that making friends and joining clubs is just as difficult as when you do it during your undergrad. As someone who struggles with social anxiety, it’s a little rough. But when we have a safe environment, we can flourish so much.

I understand that postgrads have WAYYY less time to join clubs, cause we’re usually dying, buried in assignments and 9-5 lectures. I aim to work with the fabulous pole committee to make spaces in pole for postgrads who may not have time to join classes or just simply want to destress and love a new sport. I want to help postgrads find their tribe because tbh, as crap as I personally think I am at it sometimes, I love pole, and everyone I’ve met has helped me get through a difficult beginning after starting my degree. I hope I can be that person for another postgrad out there?

Gin

I just started as a beginner this year and I already love pole dancing. It's something which is taking up a lot of my mental space regardless, so I'd like to turn it into something productive and spread the love to my fellow postgrads - especially as being a post graduate student can be isolating at times and the pole community is so caring and warm. I love that it is primarily a female, body positive, inclusive space, and that its hard work whilst at the same time allowing you to have fun and  be sexy. I'm standing because I am essentially really interested in this sport and would like to be as involved as possible and to be able to help involve and help as many postgraduate students as possible, both in the social and in the athletic spheres.
