I would love to run for president of the Egyptian society because amongst UCL there are quite a few Egyptians who don’t have a society to come to to speak to people from their home nation and ethnicity. There appears to be a society for almost every other ethnicity, yet the Egyptians have been left hung to dry with many just joining the Arab and North African society as a substitute. I have met many Egyptians within my time at UCL and have all agreed we’d better fit in at our own Egyptian society because of culture differences. I’m in close contact with the presidents and committee members of Kings, Queen Mary’s and Imperial Egyptian society as well, so that we can run mixed London unis events. London can be a very lonely place at times and sometimes meeting someone from a similar background to you and creating that friend can spark more enjoyment in a uni student’s London life. I will be hoping, with an incredible committee, to organise regular events for everyone to get together and celebrate true Egyptian culture and just have people to talk to on a regular basis as although Egypt may be a 4/5 hour flight away from London, we can bring Egypt to London.
