Sami Hamzaoui

Hi everyone, I'm Sami. I'm standing for Events and Expeditions Officer because I'm passionate about organising exciting wilderness medicine events and activities. I'm currently in my fifth year of medicine and have a strong interest in pursuing expedition and wilderness medicine as a future career.
I'd love to help the current committee invite a variety of external speakers to give talks and run hands-on workshops on key topics and skills relevant to this field, such as first aid, airway management, and outdoor survival skills.
I'm also excited about planning both shorter day trips and weekend adventures for the society. Over the past few years, I've organised several hiking trips around the UK, including to the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia. Through these trips, I've developed confidence in planning routes and ensuring trips are safe and well-prepared.
As Events and Expeditions Officer, I'd love to help grow the society's programme of trips, talks, and workshops, and provide plenty of opportunities for members to learn new skills and explore the field of expedition and wilderness medicine.

Diya Raj Yajaman

Hi! My name is Diya, and I’m a 5th year medical student with a love for adventure. My passion led to me to complete an iBSc in Remote Medicine and bring that experience to help others explore this fascinating area would be great. Wilderness medicine excites me because it combines knowledge, teamwork, problem-solving and resilience. It’s not only about first aid but also about understanding the environment, providing care in low-resource settings, and planning safe evacuation.

I want to help make this field more accessible and engaging for everyone. My goal is to create events and expeditions that combine learning, teamwork, and adventure in a supportive and inclusive way.

Through my research and placement experiences, I’ve developed strong planning, organisational and communication skills. Coordinating between teams and supervisors has taught me how to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.

If elected, I can bring:
• Educational guest lectures and hands-on workshops with simulated scenarios.
• Day hikes and longer expeditions to places such as Seven Sisters, the Lake District or even the Scottish Highlands.
• International expeditions if feasible
• Diving sessions exploring the physiology of diving, with beginner-friendly dive experiences.
• Collaborative events with other societies

I believe the best way to learn is through practical experience and having fun while developing essential skills. I would be thrilled to help shape another great year, full of adventure.
