Hi! My name is Athena, and I'm running to be one of your Freshers' Reps this academic year :) I've been working in crew since Year 7, and I’m super excited to be involved backstage in a completely new environment and on a much larger scale, starting in Term 1 as your CSM for Medea (get tickets!!)
Although I've only been a part of Stage Crew Society for a Month (and 5 days :D), I feel as if I have already found a genuine community, and it is this sense of belonging which I want to bring to the other first years. Being a fresher can be intimidating, especially in a more technically advanced society like SC, which is why I want to offer a helping hand to those new to both crew and the university, ensuring that everyone will be able to access the multitude of opportunities SC has to offer and make new friends (we love seeing that Instagram follower count go up). What particularly inspired me to run for this position was hearing in passing that most people only discover/ start immersing themselves in Stage Crew in their 2nd or 3rd year, and I think, with such amazing Arts facilities at UCL, it would be a shame to let accessibility stop people from getting involved earlier on.
If elected, I will be working together with the other Freshers' Rep to host drop-in/social sessions for first-years, help signpost more beginner-friendly training/show opportunities, and just be around in general to support everyone :)
