People join RAX because they want to be social. We could run alone but we show up because we want to feel like part of a running community. As Social Sec, I would grow that community spirit through Type 1 fun and giving back.
As runners, we’ve all convinced ourselves into liking Type 2 fun. Suffering right now is worth it for the endorphins later on. But sometimes we all need Type 1 fun.
I will focus first on non-drinking socials that don’t feel like an afterthought. Drinkers and non-drinkers alike can enjoy games nights, karaoke, cinema or theatre trips. By having these socials on Mondays or Wednesdays, non-drinkers and drinkers can take part together. Casual socials, like cheap post-long run brunch at spots like ICCO and Italia Uno, would allow people to form deeper friendships than the breathless, mid-run conversations.
Even though they might not improve your 5K PB, drinking socials are still important. A greater variety of socials, like pub golf, the Mully’s pub quiz or a Spoons crawl will help you make your ‘see you next Monday’ friends into real mates.
Giving back socials would allow everyone in RAX to make an impact on the wider community: volunteering at Parkrun, supporting a marathon or helping a RAX runner hit their fundraising target.
Even though I could, I’m not going to go on about my experience organising events, for fun and for charity, or my commitment to RAX over the past year. Instead, I think my creative suggestions for socials show why you should vote for me.
Hi, I’m Luca. I’m running to be the second RAX social secretary. I’ve been the interim social sec since the start of the year and have helped organise sports nights, post xc socials, and much more! If you’ve liked what’s been on so far, vote for me so that we can organise even more great events!
Even though I'm not the best runner nor the most consistent, the friends I have made at RAX have been some of the greatest. Running has made me so much closer to people at UCL and helped me find a community. I want to create the same environment for other people and increase the number of social activities outside of running to make it an even cooler society to be a part of.
Hello my name is Joshua - a First Year Population Health Sciences (Data Science) student and I am running to become UCL RAX's Social Secretary! Alongside my commitment to engaging with athletes on our squad I would like to further foster a a sense of community within our society and build relationships even with other sport's teams at UCL. I plan to organise various socials to do such from the UCL classic pub crawls and sports nights to other events such as bowling nights WITHOUT you breaking your bank (as someone who works every week I understand the struggle). I am always open to hearing from YOU what YOU want!
I have a variety of experience working in different capacities in various levels from my work in the hospitality industry to internships at KPMG, immunology and genetics labs and even the Department of Justice in a Magistrate's Court, so my diverse background has provided me with a plethora of skills to bring to the table!
