Hello to my fellow pole/aerial enjoyers! I've been learning pole for about 2 years now, and the community has always been extremely wonderful and welcoming, even when I started out as a complete beginner. That's not very common among the many societies here at UCL! Even for an introvert like myself, I found it easy to talk to people because of the supportive nature of the society. After being a part of this lovely community for a while, I want to pay my dues forward and do what I can to make this society even better.
As for some practical experience, I have reasonable experience with Canva as I've previously designed some graphics for social media. I also look forward to filming Instagram Reels to help destigmatise what we do and what we stand for. With these things in mind as well as your support, I hope to show more people how enjoyable pole and aerial are and highlight the wonderful people that make this society so special.
Thank you for your consideration!
I joined the UCL Fitness Pole Society in 2021, during my second year of university. The taster lesson I attended completely rocked my world. Back then, I was hungry for pole, but was also very shy (and got very little arm strength). Flash forward four years: I am in my Master's, and I still cannot get enough of pole. I have a bit more arm strength, and this society brought out a confidence in me that I did not know I had. Through this space, I slowly emerged from my cocoon - I met amazing friends and teachers, attended incredible showcases, and took part in intercollegiate competitions.
Joining the committee to give back to the community that has given me so much has been a dream of mine for a long time now. Managing the social media page would be a fantastic opportunity to do so. I have previous experience in this role, I am willing to experiment with different media, and I believe I can bring something special to our page. However, what drives me the most is something very personal. When I first joined the society, I did not know anyone and heavily relied on the information shared on Instagram. I would love to encourage people who are new or shy to reach out if they need help and advice, and to inspire them to join any events (be it a social, a showcase, or a competition) that I hope will forever change the course of their university journey, as they did for mine.
