Hey! I’m Kamil Bensouda, a second-year student studying Statistics, Economics, and Finance at UCL.
I have been serving as the interim President of the UCL Moroccan Society since the beginning of this academic year, and during this time, I’ve dedicated a significant amount of effort and energy to rebuilding the society’s community and organizing several successful events that have brought members together. My goal has always been to create a welcoming and engaging environment for Moroccan students at UCL, while also fostering collaboration with other societies and celebrating our culture.
I’m standing for this position because I genuinely believe in the potential of our society to grow and become one of the most active and dynamic cultural societies on campus. With the experience I’ve gained this term, I’m ready to continue leading with the same motivation, teamwork, and passion to make every event and initiative meaningful for our members.
This year, I proudly led the organisation of the Culture Fair, Welcome Fair and Taster Event. I also had the honour of registering our Society, representing our members at the SU Societies’ Briefing, and connecting Moroccan Society with MOSAIC. This is a new initiative led by the Moroccan Embassy and UCL student Ralia Skalli to strengthen members’ career prospects and community ties.
Some of my plans include:
- Sip (Atay!) & Paint pottery sessions
- Live AFCON match screenings with ACS
- Andalusian Night with Spanish Society
- Gendered Moroccan Iftars with ISOC during Ramadan
- Women-only belly-dancing workshops with Bellydance Society
- Collaborating with MOSAIC to host networking mixers and career panels across sectors, from Engineering and Medicine to Finance and Politics
After meeting hundreds of students at the Culture and Freshers Fairs, I was excited to see that my most popular idea was a summer trip to Morocco. As President, I pledge to make that happen! If budget allows, I’d also love to host a joint Hafla with other universities' Moroccan Societies for a night of culture, music and performances like Dekka Marrakchia and Shikhat.
As the founder of a 30-person student reading group and a borough-wide volunteer team for a leading UK charity, I’ve seen how focused ideas, driven by genuine care, can bring people together. Reflecting Moroccan hospitality and culture, I want our Society to be a space where every member feels proud to bring friends along.
For mint tea and momentum, vote Sarah ;)
