Catalina Daude

I want the Society to feel like home for anyone interested in Latin America, those who grew up there and those discovering it. My goal is for both the committee and members to feel supported and proud of what we do. I would love to bring more voices from the region into our events: researchers, professors, and politicians who can share first-hand perspectives on what’s happening across Latin America.

I am organised, reliable, and good at keeping things moving. Having lived in six countries I have learned to adapt fast and how to communicate clearly and effectively. As VP I will focus on making sure every project runs smoothly, setting clear goals, keeping the committee connected, and helping each area deliver on time. I am good at coordinating people and making sure ideas actually turn into well-run events.

Students should vote for me because I care about making the Society a space that really brings Latin America to campus. I will work to make our events engaging and well-organised, with speakers and topics that spark curiosity. More than anything, I want everyone involved to feel part of something and enjoy being there.

Emilia Valderrabano

Hola everyone! My name is Emilia, I’m a second-year Anthropology student, born and raised in Ecuador, with a Mexican father, and I’m incredibly proud of my Latino heritage. Growing up surrounded by diverse cultures has shaped not only who I am, but also my commitment to sharing and celebrating everything that makes our region unique.

Beyond its beauty and traditions, Latin America, like much of the world,  is navigating serious political, social, and economic challenges. I believe we play an important role in fostering open, informed conversations about these issues. Too often, discussions about Latin America are shaped by misinformation or oversimplification. That’s why I want to help create a space where you can engage critically and respectfully, learn from one another, and feel inspired to understand our region.

I’m running for Vice President because I want to actively contribute to this mission. I see the role as a bridge, between members, the committee, our wider network, as well as the academic and cultural sides of what we do. I want to help the society grow: by organizing events that not only celebrate our music, food, and traditions, but also bring awareness to the realities shaping our region today.

Ultimately, my goal is to make this society an even more dynamic, inclusive, and engaging community, one that represents the richness and complexity of our continent, and where everyone, Latin American or not, feels welcome to explore it.

¡Gracias! / Obrigada! / Thank you!
