University can be a challenging transition for everyone. Whether it's first-year students making their first steps into the adult life, or postgrads returning to university after work, it can be both exciting and slightly overwhelming. As a result, many students often feel stressed and isolated, and it is for that reason that welfare officers exist.
I want to become a welfare officer to promote inclusivity, wellbeing, and support for all the members in our wonderful student society. If I am chosen for this position, I would focus on creating more wellbeing events, such as art evenings and chill coffee chats, as well as possible workshops on emotional and mental health. My core responsibilities would be to ensure everyone feels safe and supported, and all of our events are carried out in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. These events can also be done in collaboration with other societies, allowing our members to make friends and for our society to establish a stronger presence. I would also work with other committee members to help society run smoothly.
Despite our society already being extremely welcoming and inclusive, there is always space for improvement. I would really love the chance to contribute meaningfully and bring new ideas regarding wellbeing aspects to help our society flourish.
