Hey everyone, I'm Leimi, a BA media second year  and I am standing to be the new treasurer for UCL's Film Society.

I've been shooting off of tight budgets and negotiating for more for as long as I can remember, and as treasurer, my job will be to take that headache off of you by getting you the funding you deserve.

On one hand, I've been part of budgeting successes such as winning best editing for UCL's annual film festival (FOMI) off of less than 200 pounds of budget which my friends and I spent on a silly fight scene against professional studio films which spend thousands and thousands on whatever they spent it on, or having my high school short film screened at Curzon Victoria off of less than 100 pounds of production budget.

On the other hand, I've been a part of enough budgeting failures as well, having directly participated in past term films with the displeasure of seeing over a thousand pounds go to waste on expensive productions that look cheap on screen.

So, are you tired of seeing money go to films that end up taking years to release for no good reason? Are you tired of hearing about FilmSoc's endless budget and not seeing it translate on screen? Are you tired of your project not getting the money and respect it deserves?

I've been in enough meetings with this year's FilmSoc committee to know that everyone is looking for a change.

If elected, I will make change or possibly die trying.

As a financially broken student 💔, I’ve turned budgeting into an art form. I know every single discount across London, from buy one get one free Uber Eats to every Unidays deal, and I always find a way to make the most out of limited funds. When I was buying props for a film project, I knew exactly where to find the cheapest alternatives that still created the best visual effect, because good results don’t always need a big budget.

That’s why I’m running for Treasurer. I pay close attention to details, making sure every penny is precise and every figure is correct. I want to use our funds wisely to create the best social events, workshops, and screenings, while ensuring there are sufficient resources for our film projects through smart and balanced allocation. With a mix of creativity and careful planning, I’ll make sure our society’s finances stay as inspiring as the films we love. ❤️

Rustam Mukhamedjanov

Hi everyone! The film industry has always fascinated me, not only for storytelling but for how much coordination, budgeting, and precision it requires behind the scenes. I’m running for Treasurer because I want to bring that same level of structure and creativity to how our society manages its resources.

As a Social Sciences and Data Science student, I’m trained to think critically, work with data, and make informed, strategic decisions. I see this role not just as keeping track of numbers, but as funding the stories we want to tell. I am confident that a great treasurer doesn’t just handle money, but makes sure ideas have the foundation to become reality.

My background combines creativity with management: I’ve worked on media projects, edited videos, and led events that required detailed planning, budgeting, and accountability. Moreover, as a former Head Boy, I learned to manage responsibility, communicate transparently, and make strategic decisions that benefited the whole community.

I am planning to:

  • Introduce transparent budget reports so every member knows how funds are used.
  • Seek external sponsorships and collaborations to expand our creative reach.
  • Create a project funding pitch system, where members can propose ideas and get financial backing to bring them to life.
  • Ensure that every pound we spend translates into a stronger creative impact.

I don’t just want to manage the finances, but turn our society’s vision into tangible impact!
