Coming to a new city as a fresher was scary. I still remember walking into my first engineering event alone, feeling unsure, and realising moments later that UCLES is all about support, collaboration, and growth.
I want every first year to feel that same welcome and confidence from day one.
That’s why I’m committed to creating a community where we can connect with each other and grow together. Imagine relaxed socials where it’s easy to meet new friends and early access to career events and networking opportunities, all backed by a feedback channel where your ideas shape what happens next. Together, we can make first year not just manageable, but truly memorable.
I want first years to feel connected to UCLES from the very start, not only once we’ve found our feet. That’s why I’ll help make events more first year friendly, from career workshops with alumni to creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable asking for help and learning from each other.
First year is NOT just about lectures and coursework, it’s about discovering what kind of engineer you want to be, making connections, and stepping confidently into new opportunities. Let’s make this year not just a start, but a catalyst, for friendships, skills, and impact that last well beyond first year.
