The BCMS society has huge potential, but too often our communities remain divided or engage
only symbolically. Many students still feel that cultural societies abroad recreate the same
national lines we wish to leave behind. I am running for President because BCMS should be
more than a cultural label - it should be a community where everyone feels equally represented,
regardless of nationality.
Growing up between Serbia and the UK taught me that identity can divide or unite. I choose
unity. I’m not running to represent one group - I’m running to serve Bosnians, Croatians,
Montenegrins and Serbs equally, without ego, hierarchy, or bias.
My plan is simple and practical:
• Making space for all points of view to be represented in organising events
• More burek and rakija events, pub crawls and club nights but also broader cultural events
with guest speakers, book discussions, music performances celebrating the culture of the region
if there is an appetite amongst society members
• Open to collaboration with other Balkan societies and cultural institutes
• Professional networking with alumni across Europe
• Events that create real connection, not symbolic separation
• A society where belonging matters more than background
Leadership is not about leading a flag - it is about serving people. My goal is for every member
to feel at home in BCMS and proud of the community we build together.
Let’s make BCMS the most united, active and impactful Balkan society at UCL - together.
