Election post
From raising awareness about atrocities in the Palestinian genocide to Zohran Mamdani becoming the first Muslim democratic socialist mayor of New York City, the campaigning power of social media cannot be denied. I wish to dedicate my efforts to harnessing this power to promote Amnesty International's mission among the UCL community.
Alongside showcasing our events, their details, and the work of their speakers on social media, I will raise awareness about human rights abuses, post mobilisation activities, and inform students on how Amnesty is addressing these issues and how the student community can support victims by voicing their concerns.
A key part of my plan involves collaborating with other universities’ Amnesty International societies and relevant organisations via social media to increase networking opportunities and awareness for students working on human rights. Furthermore, I plan to share Amnesty International’s articles on our social media, in the form of multilingual and culturally inclusive content, so the student community at and beyond UCL can become aware of the global political situation.
My experience as a Project Manager at a digital media organisation focused on marginalised communities, and at She-Her Pakistan, raising awareness about women’s rights through social media campaigns, along with my passion for human rights and digital media, makes me a strong candidate to inspire student action through the social media of Amnesty International Society.
